As you sort through the expanding crowd of plasma TVs, Toshiba's 42HP84 stands out with its clean looks and rich, high-contrast picture. This is our first look at Toshiba's plasmas, and the engineering, fit and finish, and overall user-friendliness are impressive!
The 42HP84 is an HDTV-ready plasma (reception of High-Definition programming requires a separate HDTV tuner). The TV's built-in tuner handles standard broadcast and cable signals, so you can watch all your favorite shows in a new way. The 42HP84 features Toshiba's advanced PixelPure™ multi-stage video processing, which was specifically developed for non-tube TV displays, like plasma. PixelPure improves picture quality several ways, including "scaling" (converting) signals from all your video sources so that they precisely match the plasma panel's 1024 x 768-pixel resolution. Bottom line: you'll see the best possible picture at all times.
Of course, you expect DVDs and HD material to look fantastic, but even lower-quality signals get some love. When it comes to removing noise and ghosts from regular antenna and cable signals, Toshiba's CableClear™ digital noise reduction gets the job done. The 42HP84's array of A/V inputs includes composite, S-video, component video, and future-ready digital HDMI.
